I know this young girl at the age of 10 years, she loved the Lord so much. From school she would sit down and take the bible and read by herself. She would cry at the amazing stories of the bible. Even though she was just a child, she believed that God loved her. At that time in her life, nobody from her family went to church but herself. Every Sunday morning, she prepared herself for church without fail. She loved singing praises out loud and when her mother expected visitors, she would say to her, “I am expecting visitors so today is no singing day!”

At the age of 13 her classmates would mock her and call her Mma Moruti which means Pastor’s wife. This used to hurt her so bad, one day they called her that again and she cried. A teacher saw her crying and she asked her what was wrong, she told her and teacher said, “Baby that is a good thing, that means they can see God in you!” That young girl was me, and I thank God for Mrs Lubinda, the teacher that spoke some sense into my life at the time when I doubted my Christianity.

All I am trying to say is that, it is possible for a young child to be born again and to love God. When you take your children to church believe that their lives could be transformed and they can follow Jesus. Teach them how to pray, help them with reading of the word of God and when they grow it will come out naturally. It is amazing how many story books we buy for our children believing that it will help them with their academic learning process yet we do not trust that helping them learn the bible will help them in their spiritual walk. Children do have the spirit and it needs to be nurtured as much as the adult’ spirit needs to be nurtured.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
