It is so funny how I have read or heard Genesis 1:28 which states that, ‘God blessed them and said be fruitful and multiply in number; fill the earth and subdue it…’ but I never understood it the way I do now. Just a few days back I was talking about productivity and that statement just popped on my mind and it was like I was hearing it for the first time! When you produce fruits in your career, personal or social life you will see multiplication on that area of your life.
I have always understood the verse on the basis of child-bearing and that was it, but even though that is also true there are many areas in our lives where we have to show fruitfulness. For instance; for your salary to be increased or for you to get a promotion at work first you need to bear some fruits. Your employer needs to see some kind of fruits for him to invest in you by increasing your salary or give you a better position.
As Christians, once we have the fruit of the Spirit, multiplication will follow us, it is a given. In many instances, when you see yourself not multiplying check the fruit of the Spirit, is it complete or there are some segments that are still missing. Galatians 5:18, ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against those things there is no law.’ The fruit of the Spirit is all about our character and I believe character determines our destiny in many ways than one. If you do not want to produce fruits in your area of expertise forget about multiplication, no fruits no multiplication!
Fruits contains seed, hence why a tree cannot multiply if it does not produce fruit. The seeds of your success are buried inside your character. Before you blame the witches and wizards, look first within and check for the fruit. Barrenness is not only for the womb but can also be for the work of our hands due to lack of good character. May we earnestly ask God to help us develop the fruit of the Spirit so that we can be able to multiply in all areas of our lives.
The fruit of the Spirit is like an orange fruit; it has many segments but those segments together make an orange. If you have patience and the rest of the segments but no love or self-control, then the fruit is not complete yet, we need to work on every segment of our character in order for us to show forth multiplication. If at your work place you are always submitting your work after deadline and you seem to be not taking your job seriously you will end up being the Chief Executive Gossiper, because people who were hired after you will become your supervisors and you will start making stories about why they excel. Even before the fall of man, God has always wanted us to be fruitful in our lives. Choose to change your character and see closed doors opening as you multiply. God has already blessed us; all we need to do is to act on the blessings.
