We have met only twice today and it feels like we have known each other over a decade. Dynamite indeed comes in small packages, Kushatha Chilisa is the epitome of beauty with brains; she is not only pretty but is one of the most intelligent ladies I have ever met.

She has an awe-inspiring message for women and she is the whole package of a virtuous woman. I am left amazed as to how God chooses the least to confound the wise, as shy as she is you wouldn’t expect greatness from her, but her mouth is filled with wisdom. Here is to a little of what we discussed; Be inspired!

WHO IS KUSHATHA IN A NUTSHELL?
I am the only girl in a family of four children and I am the one who brings everybody together. I am a person who likes to make a difference in other people’s lives and all I want is to impact positive change.

AT WHAT POINT DID YOU REALIZE THAT YOU WERE CALLED IN MINISTRY AND WHAT OFFICE OF MINISTRY ARE YOU OPERATING FROM?
I got saved in year 2002 and I spent 5 years being discipled by Pastor Williams, and in year 2012 I joined Prophet Baloi’s church. In year 2013 I started serving him as his Personal Assistant, so time and again I was receiving a few invites to minister and Prophet Baloi started releasing me to go. God had spoken to me through different men of God confirming that I am called to minister to women so I embraced it, though it didn’t happen overnight.

I HAVE FOLLOWED YOU ON FACEBOOK AND I REALIZED THAT YOU TALK TO WOMEN IN MOST OF YOUR POSTS, WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT WOMEN TO YOU?
It all started when I was a little girl, my mom used to involve me with her researches on women and teenage girls issues. She used to ask me to help her type her researches and I guess I got the exposure and helping women got embedded in me. I also realized that as women we do not have a platform where we could keep it real and I believe as women we need to be honest with ourselves. One day I asked my pastor if I should start talking to women and he gave me a go ahead because I felt ready. At first I was so nervous because I wasn’t so sure how people will respond but I had to listen to God and go ahead hence the beginning of Real Talk for Real women Facebook page which was well received by women.

WHAT CONTRIBUTION WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE MAKING IN THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY?
It is a hard question but who is to say, “I am making a contribution” because God is the one who decides. I will say I am contributing when I am able to feed a hundred people, or clothe the naked. I would rather prefer to hear somebody testify of what I have done in their life. I believe in giving and I also help with my hands the most, I also mother some kids spiritually but I would rather wait for God to judge me. What scares me the most is to be applauded by men and be judged otherwise by God. People do say I am hard on myself but I prefer to be hard on myself than pat myself on the back. It is good because it pushes me to always do better, until I have breathed my last breath I need to do better. Patting myself on the back can cause me to be self-righteous.

OF RECENT YOU HAVE STARTED THE “CLOSED TILL MARRIAGE” MOVEMENT FOR LADIES PROMOTING SEXUAL ABSTINENCE BEFORE MARRIAGE, WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO DO SO?
The Lord has been taking me through a process of understanding the role of a woman in a relationship, one of the things He spoke to me about was purity. I have been counselling some young girls and I realized purity is not spoken the most in church. Some ladies feel that since everybody is indulging in sex, they should also experience it and they are doing it for the wrong reasons and at the wrong time of their lives. When the bible says fornication is sin then that is what it is, SIN; it is not going to change because we feel the society has accepted. Even the world is laughing at us because we fail on our own to keep the word of God.

HOW ARE THE PEOPLE RESPONDING TO THE MOVEMENT?
I have gotten a lot of backlash for the movement. Even some Christians started saying things like, “We will see how far you will go”to some of the girls who have joined the movement, which means even Christians are not in support of what the bible clearly says. It is not about getting married but it is about fulfilling our purpose and the word of God in our lives. Fornicators will not enter the kingdom of God, that is how it is. I believe this is the right time for me to talk about this issue because I am also single so I am the relevant person to talk about it unlike a married person.

ANY PLANS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MOVEMENT?
Beginning of next year my partner Julia and I will be talking to young girls at schools. We will also host a conference where we will help the Christians to live a Christian lifestyle as per the word of God.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE WHICH CHRISTIAN WOMEN ARE FACING NOW?
The biggest challenge for women is loving one another, women do not celebrate one another due to jealousy. Even in church gossip is a problem because we have a problem with the ability to love one another. Out of love we can be able to correct one another, lift one another up without fear of being judged.

IT IS CHRISTMAS SEASON, SO WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE HOLIDAYS?
I am hoping to spend time with the people I care about, it has been a long year. We usually have a traditional family dinner and we exchange gifts with the family and just being thankful that we made it thus far.

WHAT DOES CHRISTMAS MEAN TO YOU?
For me it is a time to reflect that there was a man who came to be my savior and also a time to look back on what I have done this year to reflect the life of Christ in me. Also to thank God for the people who took me through the year. I usually do a gratitude thing whereby I note every little thing that God has done for me and put it in a jar, at year-end I read those notes and thank God for His blessing.

I KNOW SINGLE WOMEN DON’T WANT TO BE ASKED WHEN WILL THEY GET MARRIED, BUT SINCE YOU HAVE MENTIONED HAVING A BOYFRIEND ON ONE OF YOUR POSTS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW; SHOULD WE EXPECT YOU TO BE GETTING MARRIED SOON?
When I get married it will be at a time when God is transitioning me into a different area of ministry.

IF THERE WAS ANYTHING YOU HAD THE POWER TO CHANGE IN THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE AND WHY?
Our understanding of love, when we love the Lord so much sin will no longer be an issue because we wouldn’t want to do anything to hurt Him. Love makes you help the next person, comfort others because everything literally stems from love.

WHO IS YOUR INSPIRATION AND WHY?
I am inspired by Prophet Baloi because he followed the call of God disregarding his level of education and started ministry. He left all the opportunities he could have had in the corporate world. He is also always strong for everybody and full of energy. It takes a lot to be doing what he is doing yet he is never discouraged or tired, that is something that I really get inspired from.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY BIBLE VERSE?
For me it is seasonal and for this season I like Psalm 126. It shows me that God is always at work; He is never finished. We are the ones who get finished not Him. Sometimes when you go through a tough time and people are laughing at you God will turn it around and people will come and acknowledge that indeed God has blessed you. If we continue pushing, our dreams will come true.

ANY ADVICE FOR THE LADIES?
Don’t find a man, don’t look for a man; be found and the best way and the only way to be found is to be found busy doing what God wants you to do. Ruth was found busy at the field, there is no woman in the bible who was not found busy. Not to be busy getting your hair done but busy pushing the agenda of the kingdom. The relationships which are built on you finding a man or all that stuff are very limited but when the root of the relationship is God’s purpose then your relationship will be strong because it is truly purpose over emotions. A man has to need you, not for cooking but for a greater purpose because you need to submit to a purpose.
